چکیده

Here we present a continuous molecule separation/concentration system using flowing microbubbles as carriers. Microbubbles continuously generated at the microchannel confluence are able to capture target substances dissolved in the liquid phase, and these bubble carriers are concentrated by continuously removing liquid phase from the stream to achieve the continuous molecule separation. In the experiment, we evaluated the capability of cationic surfactantmodified bubbles to capture anionic molecules, as the first step to establish a new separation system without necessitating solid-phase supports.

Lab-on-a-chip in Superconducting Magnets – a Tool for Particle Separations and Bubble Manipulation via Diamagnetic Repulsion

We report on the integration of microfluidic devices and superconducting magnets to enable temporal and spatial control for the application of high magnetic fields in the study of materials and physical phenomena. Here, we perform the continuous flow separation of two particle populations in high magnetic fields based on diamagnetic repulsion, as well as the manipulation of air bubbles.

Circuit model for microfluidic bubble generation under controlled pressure

We explore the microfluidic generation of bubbles in a flow-focusing junction using a pressure-controlled device rather than the more common flow ratecontrolled devices. This device is a prototype for extending microfluidic drop generation methods to molten polymers. We show that the bubble generation process is highly sensitive to pressure: small changes in pressure induce large changes in bub...

An active bubble trap and debubbler for microfluidic systems.

We present a novel, fully integrated microfluidic bubble trap and debubbler. The 2-layer structure, based on a PDMS valve design, utilizes a featured membrane to stop bubble progression through the device. A pneumatic chamber directly above the trap is evacuated, and the bubble is pulled out through the gas-permeable PDMS membrane. Normal device operation, including continuous flow at atmospher...

A simple PDMS-based microfluidic channel design that removes bubbles for long-term on-chip culture of mammalian cells.

This report shows methods to fabricate polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidic systems for long-term (up to 10 day) cell culture. Undesired bubble accumulation in microfluidic channels abruptly changes the microenvironment of adherent cells and leads to the damage and death of cells. Existing bubble trapping approaches have drawbacks such as the need to pause fluid flow, requirement for extern...

Continuous-flow In-droplet Magnetic Particle Separation in a Droplet-based Microfluidic Platform

ABSTRACT We demonstrate a droplet-based microfluidic device in which in-droplet magnetic bead separation is performed in continuous-flow. Two droplets containing different solution for the magnetic bead separation are generated in pair-wise manner. Sequential fusion of droplets occurs by a geometrical structure. The magnetic beads are deflected by externally applied magnetic force from one side...
